William A. Lennon, 94, of Watertown passed away December 6th, 2025 at the Hospice House of Jefferson County.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Cleveland Funeral Home of Watertown, NY.
Bill was born September 2, 1931 in Watertown to Howard A. and Greta C. Lennon. He attended Watertown Schools and was a 1953 graduate of Oswego State Teachers College and received his master’s degree from St. Lawrence University in 1956.
Bill married Evelyn L. Timerman on July 3, 1955 at Asbury United Methodist Church. Bill taught Industrial Arts in area schools including Carthage Central, North Jr, Case Jr and Watertown High School before his retirement in 1988.
Bill joined the Glen Park Fire Volunteer Fire Dept. in 1957 serving as Assistant Chief for 13 years and Chief for 5 years. He continued to serve the local fire service with 40 plus years as the department’s secretary. Bill also served with the Jefferson County Firefighters and Fire Chief’s Association, Past President and Life Member. He served several terms as Membership Chairman of the Northern New York Volunteer Fire Fighters Association. Bill was a past member of the state and local Drill Team Captains Association. He was a past president of the Jefferson County Volunteer Fireman’s Convention Committee serving as general chairman hosting FASNY conventions in Watertown. Bill was a 40 year member of FASNY Membership and Legislative Committee. He was Zone 2 Deputy Fire Coordinator Car 500 proudly passing the torch to son in law Willis McIntosh semi retiring to Car 90. In addition, Bill was a 30 year member of the NYS Fire Chiefs Association, past member of SPAAMFAA and its local chapter, Thousand Islands Hose Haulers, NYS Fire Coordinators Association, past member of Watertown Power Squadron, Member of Watertown Elks Lodge 496, Children’s Boating Course instructor, and Make Sure-Make Shore. Bill also held positions throughout the years with White’s Lawn Supply, Green Machine, USDA Gypsy Moth Trapper and Cleveland Funeral Home.
Bill and Evelyn enjoyed traveling to various fire service activities, making many lasting friendships along the way. Bill enjoyed sharing stories of the fire service and held deep respect and admiration for those friends and family who shared his passion. Together Bill and Evelyn enjoyed spending time with their grandchildren, great grandchildren, a good card game and watching SU basketball. Bill and Evelyn were fortunate enough to share a 70 year relationship, It is Bill’s hope that they leave a lasting impression on all whose path’s they’ve crossed.
Bill was predeceased by his parents Howard and Greta, his wife Evelyn and his son-in-law Robert J. Davis.
Bill is survived by four daughters, Amy J. Lennon (Kathy Dougherty), Raleigh NC, Julie A. McIntosh (Willis), Laurie J. Davis, (Mark McNulty) both of Dexter NY and Paula J. Lennon, Chittenango, NY. Six grandchildren, Michael W. (Danielle) McIntosh, Daytona FL, Andrew W. (Jessica) Mcintosh, Erie PA, Ryan W. (Brittney) McIntosh, Dexter, NY, Megan C. Davis, Dexter, NY, Brooke B. (Isaac) Czarnecki, Fredericksburg VA and Drew N. Busa, Chittenango, NY. Six great grandchildren, Cohen McIntosh, Luka McIntosh, Emery McIntosh, Jude Czarnecki, Wyatt McIntosh and Henry Czarnecki.
Services will be held at Cleveland Funeral Home in Watertown on Thursday, December 11th, 2025 with calling hours from 1 PM to 3PM and a service to follow at 3 PM.
