Mrs. Theresa Louise Stotzer, 92, formerly of 166 Benson Mines Road, Star Lake passed away peacefully Thursday, August 15th at Carthage Center for Rehabilitation and Nursing where she had been a patient for several years.
Theresa was born at home February 18, 1932 in Star Lake, the 10th of 11 children born to John D. and Louise Martin LaTray. During her formative years she cared for many nieces and nephews from her older siblings. Theresa met and fell in love with a handsome, young WW2 veteran who attended the Ranger School in Wanakena. Theresa married Fred E. Stotzer on September 2, 1950 at St. Hubert's Catholic Church in Star Lake. During their early marriage they cared for Theresa's father and mother, then they eventually built a new home on the Benson Mines Road. After their marriage both Theresa and Fred welcomed many relatives and friends' children into their home to provide day care or just to visit. Children gravitated to both Theresa and Fred. They were dedicated to enriching the lives of their family and anyone else who needed kindness, inclusion, and acceptance in their lives.
They eventually welcomed their only child, a daughter, Giselle (Jill) on their 14th wedding anniversary in 1964. They were most proud of raising their 4 grandsons to adulthood.
Theresa practiced her faith. She taught catechism and the First Communion classes in her parish for many years. She and Fred would attend Mass every week without fail often in different parishes such as Gouverneur, Harrisville, or Watertown where they visited other relatives frequently.
Theresa is survived by three grandsons: Marc (Courtney) Beck, Calcium, Andrew (Brittany) Beck, Gouverneur and Jaden Green,Tupper Lake. Six great grandchildren; Drew, Kayla, Mattie, Landon, Lidia, and Raelynne Beck, and also many nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her devoted husband Fred, daughter Giselle (Jill) Beck-Green and grandson Matthew Beck. She is also predeceased by her parents, five brothers; Wilfred, Clifford, Stanley, John (Tunie) and William LaTray. Five sisters; Bertha LaPlante, Ida LeRoux, Marion Janack, Josephine Welcome, and Martha Mazuroski.
Funeral services for Theresa will be held at St. Hubert's Catholic Church, Star Lake on Saturday, September 14th at 11am. Burial will immediately follow at St. Hubert's Cemetery. Following the burial there will be a reception at the church hall.
