Shirley Goutremout Obituary

Shirley Goutremout, 74, of Watertown, formerly of Limerick and Three Mile Bay, passed away peacefully Tuesday, August 6th after a 2 month fight with pancreatic cancer while surrounded by her loving family.


Born in Watertown on October 2nd, 1949, Shirley was the daughter of Keith and Alice Ball. Shirley graduated from Watertown High School.

On September 2nd, 1967, Shirley married her husband Charles Goutremout at the Three Mile Bay Baptist Church with Reverend Thomas Houger officiating.


Shirley worked at a dairy farm with her husband, Charles, on Three Mile Point Road until 1980 when they moved to Limerick to run their dairy farm for 29 years. In 1995, Shirley and Charles opened Limerick Lumber. She worked there until 1999 when Charles passed away. After Charles passed, Shirley worked as a jewelry saleswoman at Bonton, in the office at Massey’s Furniture Barn, as a special events coordinator at the Best Western, as a preschool teacher’s assistant at CAPC, and was a foster parent through the House of the Good Shepard.

Shirley was an active member of the Lyme and Brownville Lions Club. She was a member of the Eastern Stars Chapter 225 in Chaumont. Shirley was also involved with churches in Cape Vincent, Chaumont, Dexter, Watertown, Brownville, and Evans Mills where she taught church school and lead Bible studies. Her favorite activities were reading Bible books and spending time with family and friends.


Shirley is survived by her daughter Brenda George, son Kirk (Elizabeth) Goutremout. Brothers: Leslie(Leann) Ball, William Ball; Sisters: Alicia (Bill) Bell, Jeanette Stover, Susan(Gary) Currier; Brothers-in-law: Randy (Connie) Goutremout, George Goutremout, and Keith (Kelly) Goutremout; Grandchildren: Gregory (Chyenne) George, Bradley George, Kirsten Goutremout, and Kyla Harding; Great Grandchildren: Love and Zelda George; and many special nieces, nephews, and people who she thought of as her children, grandchildren and part of her family.

Shirley was predeceased by her parents; her husband Charles Goutremout; a daughter Krista Marie; a sister Barbara Baker; a brother Dale Goutremout; and a brother Kevin Goutremout.

A funeral will be held on Wednesday August 14th at 1 PM at the Evans Mills United Methodist Church on 8668 Church St, Evans Mills, NY. A celebration of life will follow the service from 2 PM to 6 PM at the Evans Mills Fire Hall. A private family burial at the Lowville Cemetery will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Hospice of Jefferson County or to the Evans Mills volunteer fire department.
