Sally A. Countryman, 91, from Chaumont, NY, passed away Thursday, March 27, 2025, at Hospice of Jefferson County with her family by her side.
Sally was born in Watertown, NY on June 10, 1933, to the late Kenneth and Viola (Keyes) Smith. She retired from the Township Telephone Company of Chaumont, NY after 20 years, worked as a lab technician for Mercy Hospital and drove a school bus for the Watertown School District. Sally was a very generous and caring soul, she could often be found knitting afghans or hats for newborns in the hospital, sharing her knowledge of pottery in one of the classes she taught, or teaching future lifeguards and children as a certified Red Cross instructor at the YWCA in Watertown. During her retirement years she enjoyed her time with her grandchildren, great grandchildren and table games at the local casinos.
Sally attended the All-Saints Catholic Church in Chaumont, NY and served with the Altar and Rosary Society.
Sally is survived by her sons and their wife’s, Terry and Becky Countryman of Chaumont, NY, Kevin and Karen Countryman of Cape Canaveral, FL, and Michael and Jeanette Countryman of Chaumont, NY. She is also survived by her sister-in-law Peggy Smith, as well as 9 Grandchildren, 20 Great Grandchildren, 2 Great-Great Grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
Sally is predeceased by her husband George “Tug” Countryman, who passed away in 2010, a son, Cullen Countryman in 2020, her sister, Shirley Resseguie, and brothers Robert Smith, Donald Smith and Daniel Smith.
A burial at Glenwood will be held on a date to be determined.
