Phyllis Jean Ward - 84, Clayton passed away Sunday afternoon, December 28, 2025 at River Hospital Alexandria Bay with her daughter and son-in-law by her side.
Phyllis was born to Malcolm and Cora (Burningham) Carr on September 29,1941. Phyllis attended school in Brownville and graduated from General Brown High School
During her time here on Earth Phyllis worked at the General Brown school in the cafeteria. She was married to Doug Ward for 25 years and raised three children. That marriage later ended in divorce. For a time she baby sat kids in her home. She would eventually go on to work at Nichol's Dept Store. She then worked at Pharmhouse/Pharm Mor. She later went to work at Kinney Drugs where she would retired from. She also volunteered at the Brownville United Methodist Church food bank.
After retiring Phyllis moved from Dexter to her home out in the country in Clayton. She enjoyed spending time with her family and beloved cat Toby. Phyllis loved watching the wild birds out her living room window, along with some turkeys who frequented her yard often.
Phyllis is survived by her sister Frances Versace (Rochester), her brother Tom Carr of Hillsborough NC, her daughter Tammy (Tom) Adams, Clayton, her sons Timothy (Rosa) Ward Saratoga Springs, and Stephen Ward, Lewisburg OH. She also leaves behind a niece and a couple of nephews as well as her grandchildren Mandy, Ben, Damaris, Matthew, Justin, Breanna and Nathan as well as 8 great grandkids.
In addition to her parents, Phyllis is pre deceased by her brother Kenneth Carr, nieces Nicole Versace, Tricia Anson and a sister-in-law Carlye Carr.
Arrangements have been made with the Becker-Cleveland Funeral Home of Chaumont. At this time there are no services, but a Celebration of Life will take place in the spring.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Phyllis's name to River Hospital in Alexandria Bay.
