Martin White Jr. Obituary

Martin A. White Jr., a respected lifelong resident of Cape Vincent, passed away from Acute Myeloid Leukemia at home in the early morning hours on April 26, 2024, at the age of 74. Martin was surrounded by the love of his life, his wife Deborah (Grant) White, and his son Derek at the time of his passing.

Martin was the first born son of Adrian and Peggy White, born on June 18, 1949. Martin graduated from Cape Vincent Central School and worked on his family farm following graduation. He then married Debby on June 12, 1971, at St. Vincent de Paul Church in Cape Vincent. Together they built their home near his family's dairy farm where they raised their four children: Julie (Adams Center), Andrew, Derek, and Jason (Cape Vincent).

Martin's work ethic was evident in everything he did. For the majority of his life, he ran his own construction business and co-owned the Triple Crown Horsemanship Camp with his wife, Debby. He also spent time driving cross-country in 18-wheelers for Metal Transport Services and hauling hay with Terry Thompson Trucking.

Martin was known as a wise farmer, a master of various trades, and a brilliant problem solver. His problem-solving skills were second to none; he could fix anything and was often contacted for his ideas. He was resourceful and never let anything go to waste. He could find anything anyone was looking for and would always be happy that he had found it for them, not caring about making a profit. His wisdom as a farmer will never be replicated and was his true passion. He loved his land, his animals, haying, planting, and everything associated with farming.

Martin's faithful companions, Roxy and then Chevy, were always by his side and in the seat next to him as he drove every backroad in the North Country working. He'll be remembered for his generous spirit, his mischievous smirk, his constant teasing and joking around with people which always ended with his unforgettable laugh. Martin lived a simple life focused on what is truly important and took great pride in his Ford trucks, Massey Tractor, International Tractors, and his 1969 Road Runner.

His legacy stretches far and wide, touching the hearts of all those he helped and befriended along the way. He always had a hello for everyone and never judged anyone for decisions they made in life. Martin will be remembered for his strength, independence, warmth, determination, and his unending love for his family, friends, and community. He lived every second of life he was given and never stopped; he didn’t understand the concept of vacations and holidays as these were lost time that he could be working. Now is his time to “Take It Easy.”

Calling hours will be held at St. Vincent of Paul Catholic Church, Kanady Street, Cape Vincent on Friday, May 3rd, from 4:30 pm to 7:30 pm, followed by a funeral service on Saturday, May 4th, at 11 AM. A Celebration of Life will be held at the American Legion, Broadway, in Cape Vincent following the church services. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.

Martin is survived by his mother, Peggy White, his wife, children, grandchildren (Dominick, Olivia, William, Blake, Gage, Makayla, Camron, Sirus, Jacob, Kaylee), and his great-grandchildren (Octavia, Cora, Jackson, Hunter, and Harper). He is also survived by his brothers and sisters: Ken, David, Donald, Brian, Jean Knapp, and Lou Ann Thompson. He's now reunited with his dad, Martin "Adrian" White, and his sister Margaret Fein.
