Lola M. Greenwood, 88, of Watertown, NY passed away Thursday, May 9th at her home under the care of her family and Hospice.
Lola was born on September 30, 1935 to the late Raymond and Nana (Noble) Gardner in St. Lawrence County. She spent her early years growing up in Colton, New York where she graduated from Colton-Pierrepont Central School in 1954. After marriage she moved to Copenhagen, NY and was an active member of the United Church and was a driver for meals on wheels for many years. During this time she also worked as a cleaner and cook at Copenhagen Central School and then at Lewis County Cooperative Extension as a nutritionist, traveling to individual’s homes teaching families how to cook and can healthy food.
At the age of 50 Lola earned her Associate’s Degree in Culinary Arts from Jefferson Community College in 1985. After earning her degree, Lola worked as an executive
chef for the Ramada Inn until 1993. She also worked at the Oak Tree Restaurant in Massena, NY, the Lobster House in Norwood, NY, and the place that became her family Art’s Jug, Watertown, NY.
Lola’s pride and joy were her family. She is survived by her ten children, Kim L. Greenwood of Adams Center, NY, Dean E. (Joyce) Greenwood of New Bremen, NY, Wanita C. (James) Gallagher of Peru, NY, Ed (Brenda) Greenwood of Copenhagen, NY, Cathy (Roger) Snyder of Copenhagen, NY, Karen (Dale) Hawk of Lyons Falls, NY, Barbara (Emily) Greenwood of Watertown, NY, Tim (Ellie) Greenwood of New Bremen, NY, Debra (Jeff) Stevenson of Watertown, NY, and Sarah (Edward) Richardson of Chaumont/Dexter, NY. Lola is also survived by her siblings Ernest Gardner of Norfolk, NY, and Shirley Gardner, as well as 25 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild.
Lola is predeceased by two grandsons (Enzo Greenwood Coinco and Andrew Stevenson), her parents, her stepfather, Arthur Gardner, and her brother, Edward Gardner.
A memorial service will be held 11 AM, Saturday May 18, 2024, at the United Church of Copenhagen, followed by lunch at the River of Life Church in Copenhagen, NY.
