Watertown, NY and Milwaukee, WI-June E Calhoun 89, passed away on Friday August 9, 2024, surrounded by her loving family at Aurora Zilbur Family Hospice in Wauwatosa, WI.
June was born April 1, 1935 in West Carthage, NY to Harry V McIntosh and Bessie J Alexander. June married the love of her life, Orvis A Calhoun on August 12, 1956 at Hope Presbyterian Church in Watertown. Prior to Orvis's passing in 2022, they celebrated 66 years together.
June graduated from Sackets Harbor Central School in 1953.
June continued her education in Ogdensburg, NYC and House of Good Samaritan School of Nursing in Watertown. She graduated as a Registered Nurse in 1956.
June worked in private family practice for doctors in Liverpool and Watertown, NY. She worked for Dr Chris Ronson for many years. She went on to work for Mercy Hospital and Madonna Home as a Nursing Supervisor and retired in 1997, after 41 years of service.
June was a member of Stone Presbyterian Church and a former member of Hope Presbyterian Church, both of Watertown.
June loved spending time with her family. June and Orvis spent two week camping vacations every summer. They enjoyed showing their children most of the United States and parts of Canada, including Nova Scotia and Saskatchewan. During these vacations the card game of choice, on rainy days was Blitz. As everyone got older, Pitch became the Calhoun's Saturday night card game. No money was ever wagered, it was just for bragging rights until the next game night. She loved playing cards, camping, hunting and bowling.
June and Orvis were Historically, the oldest continuing bowling couple in the Friday night, Tree Co Ed League at Pla Mor Lanes in Watertown.
June's last two years were spent in Milwaukee, WI. Her adventures included attending car cruises & shows. She was almost always the oldest person attending, many times with the younger generations seeking her out to pose for a picture. She loved the attention. She enjoyed going to plays, comedy shows, museums, festivals and the Milwaukee Brewer's games. She also attended Milwaukee Buck's games and concerts at Fiserv Forum. During the week she attended an adult daycare program at Community Care. They played games, did crafts, sang songs, watched movies, and walked as a group. June absolutely loved this program.
June is survived by her children Roy (Lisa) Limerick, Bernetta (Don Rice) Watertown, Debra (Don Sholett) Sackets Harbor, Sandra Dee (Rob De Long) Wisconsin. She is also survived by her grand children, Nichole (Mark Schreiner), Adrianne (Sean Isenbergh), Stephanie (Dan Enghusen), John Rice, Shawnee Rice, Holly De Long, Chad De Long, and Daniel Bower.
