Judith Pearson Obituary

Cape Vincent - Judith (Judy) Pearson, 88, died peacefully on February 22, 2024, at her winter home in Naples, FL, surrounded by her four children.
Born on January 26, 1936, in Gowanda, NY, to Dr. Norris and Donna Frank, Judy was a writer and poet since childhood and graduated from the University of Rochester in 1958 with a degree in English literature. She married Dr. Clarence Arthur (Art) Pearson in 1960, and the couple eventually settled in Oneida, NY, before dividing their time between Naples and Cape Vincent.
Dedicated to making a difference in her community, Judy was a firm believer in the importance of supporting local organizations, especially those that were close to her heart, such as her church, the arts, and Scouting. Judy, a member of the Episcopal Church, cherished the warmth and support she found in her faith community. She was an enthusiastic champion of the Chopin piano competition and the Clayton Opera House along with many other local organizations including Cape Vincent Community Library, the Thousand Islands Association, and Save the River. In 1948, at age 12, Judy became a Girl Scout, marking the beginning of a long Scouting career in which she served on council boards and in troop leadership.
Judy’s lifelong passion for writing found expression in the numerous short stories and poems she wrote through the years, some of which appeared in print. She co-founded writing groups in both Oneida and Cape Vincent to share her work with kindred spirits and to improve her craft. As a writer, life on the St. Lawrence River offered Judy an abundance of inspiration.
Judy is survived by daughter Kim Bigelow (Martin) of Middleville, NY, and sons Arthur “Larry” Pearson (Dale) of Richmondville, NY, Douglas Pearson (Mary) of Macon, GA, and Norris Pearson (Marguerite) of Troy, NY. Her legacy continues through her much-loved grandchildren Nathan (Jenna) Bigelow, Heidi (Derek) Erbert, Nicholas Pearson, Caroline Pearson, Elizabeth Pearson, and Garrett Pearson as well as great-grandsons Henry, Oliver, and William Bigelow. She was predeceased by her husband, Art, in 2022.
A memorial service will be held on July 1st at 11 AM at St. John's Episcopal Church in Cape Vincent, NY. Donations may be made in her memory to support nonprofit organizations through the C. Arthur Pearson and Judith Frank Pearson Fund, care of the Northern New York Community Foundation, 131 Washington Street in Watertown, NY 13601.
