Jeanne K. Thompson, 92 of Cape Vincent passed away early Tuesday morning, November 5th at the Summit Senior Village.

 

Jeanne Katherine Marie Branche was born October 24, 1932. Married Walter B. Thompson on July 25, 1953 at St Vincent of Paul Cape Vincent, NY. Walt passed away April 27, 1986.

 

Jeanne is survived by her four sons: Kevin (Lou Ann) of Cape Vincent, Danny of Henrietta, NY, Eric (Sue-Ellen) of Rush NY and Scott (Karen) of Pittsfield, MA. Nine grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren. A sister Patricia Krause of Euless, TX. And sister-in-law Patricia Vreatt. She was predeceased by her parents Lewis V Branche and M Doris (Grimshaw) Branche, brothers, Bill, Tom, Jack and sisters Betty, and Mary Lou.

 

Jeanne was a graduate of Cape Vincent Central School (class of 1949) and Watertown School of Commerce 1949-1950. She then worked as a bookkeeper for Northern Haulers Inc. 1950-1954. She became Village of Cape Vincent Treasurer from 1969-1985 then Village of Cape Vincent Clerk 1985-1990 retiring in 1990 as well as a part time Thousand Islands teacher's aide 1972-1985.

 

Jeanne was a member of St. Vincent of Paul Church Altar and Rosary Society. She served on the Paynter Center Board of Clayton, NY, Cape Vincent Correctional Facility Community Advisory Board, Cape Vincent Housing Corporation Board, Tibbetts Point Lighthouse Historical Society Board and President, Treasurer of the Cape Vincent Historical Museum, Treasurer of Cape Vincent Christmas Decorating Committee for five years, Cub Scout Den Mother for ten years, Treasurer Cape Vincent Library for twenty years, Chairman Cape Vincent Youth Commission, Co-director and performed in various Variety shows, French Festival Committee, Secretary/Treasurer Riverside Cemetery Association, St Vincent of Paul Parish Council and Citizens Bank of Cape Vincent Advisory Board. She was also Cape Vincent Citizen of the Year in 1990 and was Ya-Ya Sisterhoods Person of the year 2009. She also instituted the History Buff meeting she hosted for over fifteen years.

 

Jeanne had a passion for her community, reading history and New York Times crossword puzzles.

 

A calling hour will be held at the St. Vincent of Paul Church, Cape Vincent from 10 AM to 11 AM on Wednesday, November 13th with a funeral mass immediately following.

 

Memorial donations may be made in her name to St. Vincent of Paul Church Cape Vincent, NY or the American Cancer Society at 1120 S Goodman St, Rochester, NY 14620.
