Geraldine S. Petroff, 87, of Cape Vincent, NY passed away at her home on Monday, May 12th, 2025.
Geraldine was born on November 11th, 1937 in Richfield Springs, NY to the late Anthony and Rose (Janiec) Serbanewicz. She married Thomas Petroff and together they had a son, Thomas Petroff Jr.. Geraldine and her family moved to Cape Vincent about 12 years ago and since then she has been involved in the Cape Vincent Ladies Auxiliary and attended St. Vincent of Paul Catholic Church, she was also a part of the Red Hat Society in Chenango, NY. Geraldine was the kind of woman who could never sit still, she was the general manager of Carlisle Personnel and head of security at the Griffiss Air Force Base, along with a slew of other positions she held along the way. Geraldine loved music, she played the accordion professionally and performed in New York City many times, she also enjoyed playing the piano and keyboard.
Geraldine was always a very caring and generous woman, she loved to help people in any way she could. Her greatest treasure was the time she spent with her family, she loved to plan vacations, holidays, and family trips. Some of the Petroffs’ greatest trips include a trip to Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island, and a two month trip to Alaska with their new motorhome. Geraldine could often be found fishing with her husband, boating, or enjoying a barbeque with her family. Her all-time favorite campground was Cedar Point State Park in Clayton, NY. When Geraldine wasn’t traveling or camping she liked to make cards and tend to flowers, she also loved animals and cared for many dogs and cats throughout the years.
Geraldine is survived by her husband, Thomas Petroff Sr., a son, Thomas Petroff Jr., two sisters, Phyllis (Greg) Lippitt of Cooperstown, NY, and Lucille Miller of Melbourne, FL, nieces and nephews, Barbara, Arthur, Robin, Lisa, Kimberlee, and Michelle, and good friends, Janet Potochniak, Julie Worden, Ed and Kathy Chiarmonte, and Barb and Bud LaFlame.
Geraldine is predeceased by a sister, Arlene Griffin, her parents, her good friend Velma Schreppel, and a host of beloved pets.
Calling hours will be held at the St. Vincent of Paul Catholic Church of Cape Vincent on Saturday, May 17th, from 11 AM to 1 PM with a funeral mass immediately following. A graveside service will be held at the St. Vincent of Paul Cemetery following the funeral mass.
A luncheon will be held at the St. Vincent of Paul Church following the graveside service, guests are welcome to bring a dish to pass.
