Edward P. Bender, 87, of Cape Vincent, NY, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 5, 2025 at the Jefferson County Hospice residence in Watertown.
Ed was born October 4, 1937, in Rochester, NY, the son of Edward and Mary Bender. He graduated from Penfield High School, class of 1955. He served in the US Army and was honorably discharged in 1959. He was employed by the Brighton Fire Department, a suburb of Rochester NY, serving 32 years, attaining the rank of Captain. He also operated a fishing charter business on the St. Lawrence River and Lake Ontario for 25 years.
On October 10, 1983 Ed married his wife Paula in Cape Vincent. He is survived by his wife Paula, and his son Kevin, Jacksonville, FL.
In Cape Vincent, Ed served over the years on the Village Zoning Board, Town Zoning Board, the Local Development Committee, Town Board, and served four years as the Town of Cape Vincent Supervisor. He was also a member of the Cape Vincent Lions Club and American Legion.
Ed received such wonderful and compassionate care by the angels at Hospice. Paula wishes to thank the entire staff for their commitment to excellence. They took amazing care of both her and Ed.
A private service will be held for the family.
