REDWOOD, NY- Bruce R. Umstead, 66, of Farrell Road, passed away on Friday, March 19, 2021 surrounded by family at the Jefferson County Hospice Facility in Watertown, NY.

Bruce was born on April 3, 1954 in Syracuse, NY to the late George R. and Eva M. (Davis) Umstead. He was a graduate of Alexandria Central School, class of 1973.
He joined the Air Force in November of 1976 and was honorably discharged in July of 1992 with the rank of SSGT. Bruce was stationed in Germany, S. Korea, England, and Spain. He was a Veteran of Operation Desert Storm/Shield. While serving as a tactical Aircraft Maintenance Technician he received many awards and ribbons including: Training Ribbon, Longevity Service Award Ribbon with two Oak Leaf Clusters, Over Seas Long Term Ribbon, Over Seas Short Term Ribbon with one Oak Leaf Cluster, and the National Defense Service Medal. He also received the South West Asia Service medal with two Bronze Stars, Kuwait Liberation Medal, and Good Conduct Medal with four Oak Leaf Clusters Achievement Medal.
Bruce was a PUFL member at John B. Lyman Post 904 American Legion, Alexandra Bay for 27 years. Serving as Commander from 1999-2001.
He is survived by his twin sister, Barbara J. Keil, Clayton, NY, and his sister Connie S. Short, Owego, NY, his brothers; George J. (Beverly) Umstead, Redwood, NY, and Michael J. Umstead, Redwood, NY, along with many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Along with his parents, Bruce is predeceased by his brothers; Gerald (Jerry) Umstead, Robert Umstead, two brothers who died at birth, and a sister who died at birth.
There will be a graveside service with military honors on Saturday, May 22, 2021 at Barnes Settlement Cemetery in Alexandra Bay, NY at 2PM.
