Alton Anthony Germain Jr., passed away peacefully after a long illness on March 10 with his family at his side. He was born in Buffalo on October 24, 1945. Al is pre-deceased by his beloved wife, Annmarie Barnitt, and his parents Dr. Alton Germain and Nancy nee Suozzi Germain. He is survived by his children Julie Regina, Alton III, Stephanie Angeline, stepdaughter Stephanie Boone and siblings Caterine (Gatewood), Christina (McGinniss) and John.
He graduated from Canisius High School in 1963 after a stellar pitching career on the Crusaders’ baseball team. After Canisius College and graduate work at Indiana University he began a distinguished teaching career in New York State Corrections, including Attica State Prison at the time of the riots in 1971. He enjoyed many happy years in Alexandria Bay after his retirement in 2001.
Al lived life to the fullest inspiring everyone with his depth of knowledge and strength. A kind-hearted man of many tastes, he was an avid book reader, antiques collector, and Bills and Yankees fan. Al was everyone’s hero.
Visitation Thursday March 13, 5-7 PM Cleveland Funeral Home Cape Vincent. Memorial Service at St. Vincent DePaul Church, Friday, March 14, 10 AM.
